Deal & Walmer Castles

Deal has 2 castles open to the public. Both are maintained by English Heritage. It takes about 25 minutes to walk the 1.3 miles of seafront between Deal and Walmer castles.

Deal Castle

Deal is one of 3 castles built along the Deal coastline by Henry VIII. The entire castle is open to the public.

It’s a rugged castle, ideal for the kids to explore. The children’s activities really add to the fun.

Walmer Castle

Built by Henry VIII, Walmer Castle is still in use as the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.

The castle and gardens are open to the public. There are relics of many of the past Lord Wardens including Wellington’s Boots! The gardens are a delight at any time of year.

The Glasshouse cafe offers cream teas plus a seasonal menu that features ingredients fresh from the castle gardens.
