Deal has 2 castles open to the public. Both are maintained by English Heritage. It takes about 25 minutes to walk the 1.3 miles of seafront between Deal and Walmer castles.

Deal is one of 3 castles built along the Deal coastline by Henry VIII. The entire castle is open to the public.

It’s a rugged castle, ideal for the kids to explore. Be sure to get the audio guide to get the most out of your visit, there are also special audio guides for kids.

Open 21 Mar -30 Sep 10am-6pm Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, & Sun. (Closes 5pm Sats)

Walmer Castle

Built by Henry VIII, Walmer Castle is still in use as the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.

The castle and gardens are open to the public. There are relics of many of the past Lord Warden’s including Wellington’s Boots! The gardens are a delight at any time of year.

Audio guides are available. The tea rooms are open April- October and do lovely scones.

Open 21 Mar-30 Sep 10am-6pm. (Closes 4pm Sat.) Closed 11-13 July when Lord Warden in residence. 1-31 Oct 10am-4pm Wed-Sun. Closed 1 Nov-28 Feb 1-31 Mar 10am-4pm Wed- Sun.
